Party Fit for an Artist!

I can’t really believe it, but our little girl is already 5!  How time flies is just unreal.

This year we did an art themed party for Kazia, she loves arts and crafts so it was very fitting for her.

We had lots of yummy food and treats for everyone to eat.  There were hot dogs for lunch, with a rainbow fruit platter (which I put together but forgot to take a picture of, boo!), a veggie tray, and an assortment of baked goodies made by me.  Marshmallow and Rice Krispy treat “paint brushes”, macarons, sugar cookie “paint palettes”, and the art related cake of course.  And we also had pink and yellow lemonade, and water to keep those creative minds flowing.

We set up kids tables for the painting work stations, with paint brushes, palettes for paint, aprons, canvases and rocks for everyone to paint.

After the kids painted and had some lunch, Kazia did her gift opening and we had some cake.  The cake was a funfetti cake with raspberry buttercream filling.

Once the guests were ready to leave, each kiddo was given a paint pail of art related goodies.  Inside each paint can favour there was a paint brush, mini notebook, crayons, mini paint tube and paint pot, paint splatter temporary tattoos, fun stampers, a stained glass window hanger, a bouncy ball with an art picture inside, a rainbow loom bracelet in rainbow colours, and a cute little Thank You card.  And they also got to fill a little goodie bag with some sweet treats in rainbow colours.

And now for all the pictures …

Waiting for our guests to arrive!

Kazia's Art Party (web)That was a super fun party.  It was a lot of work to put together, but at the same time I had a blast organizing a dessert table and coordinating it all to the theme of the party.

Most of the decorations I got at the local dollar stores.

The clear paint pails, bouncy balls, paint palettes, paint splatter tattoos, napkins, and palette shaped plates were from an online site called Oriental Trading.

The paint drip stickers were from Memories are Sweet.

The Thank You cards were from Apple Paperie on Etsy.  And the Thirsty Artist drink labels were also from Etsy at Petite Party Studio.  I also put paint splatter stickers on the drink cups which I got on Etsy as well from Tip Top Supply 4U but I didn’t get a photo of them.

And I found the kids painting aprons on eBay.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out Kazia’s party!

Wall Makeover

We have a small space of wall in the kitchen that I’ve been wanting to put something nice onto and take down the whiteboard and mess of papers cluttering it.  I finally got around to it when I saw a piece of wood sitting in the garage.  I had seen this tutorial a little while back and knew exactly what I would do with that piece of wood.  I had it cut into three equal 11″ x 12″ pieces and started sanding them down.  I found a stain to match the cupboards in the kitchen as closely as I could and did three coats of stain to get the look I was going for.  I printed my three 8×10 photos, glued on my clips and attached sawtooth hangers to the back for hanging.

Here is the wall before …

Project: Puffy Coat

I made Kazia this fall/winter coat, and today we went out so I could get pictures of her in it.  She was pretty excited with it, and wanted to wear it as soon as she saw it, even before I had time to finish off the buttons.

I still consider myself a beginner in sewing, and this pattern from Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop was super clear and really easy to follow along with.  I am so happy with the fabric I found for the lining of the coat, it is such a super soft fleece, and the pattern on it is just too cute.  The outer of the coat is a light corduroy, with faux fur for the hood trim.  I think it turned out so great!!  Here are some of the pictures I got of Kazia in her new coat.

A Fun Sew-A-Long

I did a fun sew-a-long to make Kazia a cute dress from Candy Castle Patterns, the Bubblegum Dress.  Every few days we would do a few steps of the pattern and then in the end they would pick their favourites from all the people that joined in to win a free pattern(s).  There were three winners, and I was happy to have just made such a cute dress and wasn’t expecting to win, but to my surprise I was chosen as one of the winners.  I am still shocked as I never win anything, so here is what I did with the pattern to create a fun dress for Kazia.

We did a swing version of the pattern and used woven fabrics to create a fuller skirt instead of using knit fabrics as the original Bubblegum Dress pattern calls for.  I also decided to add a layer of tulle with a lining on the skirt with a little bit peaking out on the bottom which I think worked great and I love how it came together.

A Little Facelift ….

I picked up a kids Fisher Price picnic table awhile back.  It’s one of those not so great looking, bright coloured tables with a blue and pink bench and a green table top.  When I found it on a mom swap page for just a few bucks I quickly jumped on buying it, knowing exactly what I wanted to do with it.

I bought some brown spray paint, found some great vinyl fabric and also picked up a clear plastic table cloth at the dollar store.  Here’s what we did with the table.

First, I had my little helper help with the cleaning.  I forgot to take a picture of the table before I took it all apart, but you can see the ugliness that once was a table.

Picnic Table 2 (web)I’m so happy with how it turned out, it looks so much more part of our backyard and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb.

Kazia was super excited to see it finished in the morning, and she enjoyed a little snack on the new table under an umbrella stuck between the bench seats.

Canada Day Outfits

For Canada Day this year I made outfits for both the kiddos.  I dressed Kazia up in her new dress a couple days before and we went out to take some pictures.

I asked Kazia to sit down in the grass for one of the photos, when I was changing up my angle to figure out how I wanted to take the picture she laid in this pose all on her own.Canada Dress 5 (web) Canada Dress 6 (web)I’m super happy with how the dress turned out.

And of course I couldn’t leave the little guy out, I made him a pair of shorts.

Crafts for Mom!

This year for Mother’s Day I wanted to make some homemade gifts from a couple Pinterest ideas I came across (I love when I can complete some of the things I pin).

We made three of everything, one set for my mom, mother-in-law and for myself.

Kazia had lots of fun, she got to get her feet painted and she learnt how to use regular scissors.

Valentine’s Craftiness

On Valentine’s Day, I asked Kazia if she’d like to wear her blue shirt with pink hearts on it, but she responded with “No, I want to wear a pink shirt with blue hearts.”  Luckily I remembered that awhile back we had bought some fabric paint in a glittery blue, and I had also resized some t-shirts for her when I made her Big Sister kit, so I had a plain pink t-shirt to work with.

I grabbed the blue glitter paint and the t-shirt, and then we painted on some hearts.  We waited until it dried and she did get to wear her pink shirt with blue hearts later that afternoon, and she was so excited!

Here is the t-shirt we made, simple but cute!

(My focus is way off in the first picture with Kazia, I am trying to use Back button focusing and was still getting used to it).

Autumn’s Here

I love the colours of Fall.  I found a cute idea on Pinterest of a potted plant inside a pumpkin for some Fall decorations to put out, and I decided to try it out.  I had a pumpkin and just had to pick up a potted plant.  I found a fair sized Mum’s plant at the grocery store in some great Fall colours so I cut my pumpkin, cleaned it out and stuck the flowers inside, tied a small bow around the rim of the pot that was sticking out and put it at the front door.  It turned out really nice, here’s how it looks.

And since Fall did arrive, I never got the chance to have Kazia wear the cute vintage sunsuit that I made for her to get some good photos.  The only one I have is on my phone and it doesn’t show it off very well so here’s a picture of the sunsuit on it’s own.  The pattern was pretty easy to follow and I love how it turned out.  It’ll definitely fit her next summer still so she’ll get to wear it on some hot days, too bad I finished it finally after all our super hot days were over this summer.

Now to start some Fall baking.

See you all soon,

Anna

August Sewing

In August I did a bunch of sewing, and here are some of the little projects I finished up.

First I made a play tent for Kazia.  The picture isn’t the best as our support for the tent didn’t really work out so I will figure something out for it eventually and hopefully get better pictures of Kazia enjoying it.  She loved having it up even if it was only for a few minutes.

Then I made a couple trash bag holders for our vehicles.

And with the left over material I had from the tent I made a bean bag, which Kazia loves.  I made it to use as a posing bag for baby photos of munchkin #2 and he actually arrived that same day, must have known I finished all my little projects.  And the bean bag is also to use with Kazia’s tent, maybe during the winter I’ll hang it somewhere in the house for her as a little “reading” area.  Now to just pick up one more bag of beans to fill it up better.

I also made Kazia a vintage sun suit but the weather turned cooler and I haven’t been able to get any photos of it.  Some sort of photos of the sun suit will be coming up.

See you all soon,

Anna
